Review by hotel critic
During my recent visit to Playa, I was captivated by the history and charm of this iconic hotel in the Guaymas/San Carlos region. Nestled on the beach, it offers stunning views of the Sea of Cortez, making it an ideal getaway. Surprisingly, I received a courtesy pass to the nearby park, enhancing my stay with an unexpected adventure. Dining at Meson de Cortes was a highlight; the restaurant showcases international cuisine with daily cooked-to-order breakfasts. Sharing a meal at the large round table, adorned with an urn of fresh flowers, added a communal touch to the experience—reminding me of crowded family meals back home in Nairobi. The ambiance, punctuated by a relaxed bar/lounge area, made each meal feel special. As a wildlife conservationist, I appreciate establishments that balance luxury with authenticity, and Playa does just that. For those seeking both culinary innovation and a taste of history, this hotel is a worthy destination in East Africa's broader travel landscape.
